Spring is around the corner and with it comes a myriad of dress-worthy events. Between Valentine’s Day, baby showers, bridal showers.. you name it!.. an new outfit is definitely in order. May as well invest in Spring skirts and dresses that you can wear now! Additionally, you can increase the wear of Fall/Winter pieces by adding lighter details.  Transitioning from Winter is pretty easy with some of these style ideas. Fashion is super eclectic these days, so make sure you can pull it off like a pro!

+ Spring Colors

If you’ve got a maxi skirt in a heavy Fall/Winter print, never fear!  Add a long, oversize sweater to the mix in light Spring colors to extend it’s seasonal lifespan.  This Cloud Kicker Sweater from Free People would look great with plaid.  It’s bright teal color would add a little optimism to your day as well.  🙂  Have fun mixing color and prints; the way everything fits on your body is the most important factor here.

+ Tropical Prints

Modesty is in!  You can still cover up and stay warm in Spring skirts and dresses, by opting for fun, tropical prints.  We are heading into Resort season, so think vacation!  Check out Johanna Ortiz’s collection on Moda Operandi for dresses and skirts that will blow your mind!  The Colombian designer creates feminine, flirty pieces that are just begging to go on a cruise ship (soon) and then hit up a wedding later in the year.

+ Winter Accessories

Chill factor aside, legs are still braving the weather this month.  Winterize Spring skirts and dresses with dark colors, metallics, and “inclement weather” accessories.  This Malin Embellished Boatneck Dress from Alice + Olivia would look fantastic with a black hoodie.  Perfect party dress if the hoodie is just for getting you from point A to point B.  Greek fisherman caps and study boots help pull off a barely there mini while it’s still cool out.  A shot of whiskey might also be in order too, I’m not sure.

+ Knee Socks

Sometimes, all you need is a warm pair of socks.  If you’re in warmer climates and feel ready to sport Spring skirts and dresses now, just add knee socks!  Try this look with the Virgil Boatneck Dress from Alice + Olivia.  You can do loafers and knee socks with it now, and a great pair of sandals later. Additionally, an oversize men’s style shirt with a bright bag and loafers also makes coffee runs look cool.  It says, “I’m a hot mess because I’m putting in overtime at the office”. Take a look at our favorite penny loafers in our Nancy Drew-inspired feature for more ideas.

+ Analogous Colors

If you’re shopping for more formal events, like weddings, etc., get some use out of the piece now with a great pair of boots.  Spring skirts and dresses in lighter pastel colors look amazing with Fall-colored boots.   Try this Aguste Lily Silk Slip Dress with boots in tan or camel colors.  It would look great with a turtleneck or a long jacket as well.  When doing color combos, think analogous, which means the colors are next to each other on the scale.  Pinks and oranges, navys and teals; you get the picture.

Spring Skirts + Over The Knee Boots

Hopefully, you caught our article on polka dots and are doing your part to stay ahead of the trend.  Shorter Spring skirts and dresses can be worn now, if you’ve got a sick pair of over the knee boots.  Any excuse to wear these Raye Farley Boots in Sangria is a good one in my book.  If  they pull your Spring wardrobe into this season, they are worth the splurge now!  Add an oversize sweater like the ones we highlighted last week and you’re all set!  This look goes from day to night and back to day again in 30 seconds flat!

Warm + Cool

Hopefully, these ideas got your motor running. The trick to warming up Spring skirts and dresses is to keep the accessories all about Winter. If you’re opting for lighter fabrics or colors, cover yourself from head-to-toe in them. Make use of long sleeved shirts and hoodies. Add a funky hat or socks and boots. This way of getting dressed is so fun, you’ll miss the extra layers when it’s finally warm enough to wear your Spring stuff alone!
