How to Pick a Flattering Swimsuit

First and foremost, get real with your body type. Everyone is turning a corner from the holidays, so don’t worry if you’re in tip-top shape. Understanding how to flatter your figure is an essential step to picking out the right suit. (Then you can start living off of our high-protein, low-glycemic green smoothie while hitting the gym DAILY before your trip.) You’ll always look your best when you feel your best. Even if you were in peak condition, a too-small top or unflattering bottoms would still do you wrong. So be brave and shop smart.

Big Booty Girls

Might as well start with the area most of us struggle with most. If you’ve got a lot of junk in your trunk, wear a swimsuit that gives you ample coverage. Solid bottoms mixed with printed tops also gives your figure some balance.  Once you’ve got your suit situated, you can shop for a variety of kimonos or wraps to boost your confidence. Our favorite full-size suits are from Esther Williams. Any site that includes a fan page and a size chart that caters to hip sizes up to 142″ can’t be wrong.  Their suits combine retro styling with figure-flattering details, such as side ruching and low-cut legs.    No cover up necessary! We especially love the Marilyn Classic, OMG! Available in a myriad of prints (polka dots included, see more of our favorite trend here), but we love it in white.

No Booty Babes

For gals who struggle with the opposite problem, a flat fanny is easy to perk up. Give your bum greater emphasis with a swimsuit that shows a little more cheek. Ruched suits are also popular and give a little extra oompf. We love Amuse Society’s Amuse X Flynn Skye Lenora Cheeky Bottom for it’s cute stripes and high back. Take a look at their size chart here. (They have a helpful guide to their swimsuit bottoms if you scroll down to the end.) Super cute styles for girls with little bums!

Double DDs

Ah, the well-endowed. Although we never feel really sorry for you, it’s still important to keep things in proportion. A swimsuit with underwire and actual cup sizes provides the best support for your girls. Your best best is to check out ASOS for tops in larger cup sizes. We especially like the ASOS CURVE Mix and Match Underwired Bikini Top with Hook and Eye for its underwire cups and adjustable straps. They don’t have a separate size guide that we can link you to, so click on the link above the size input for more details. (This particular top is available from sizes 38D to 42G.) Add a cute straw hat from our Summer article and you’re good to go!

Small Chest Woes

Athletic girls with less on top need to add some frills to stay in proportion. A swimsuit with ruffles or any kind of ornamentation helps give you some extra volume. Padding works as well or you can pair your favorite bottoms with a breezy cotton tank. The Emma Bralette by Amuse Society is adorable with ruffles that extend off the shoulders. Amuse has the cutest little bum/ little boobs suits in town. Now all you need is a little boat (and a big captain!).

Comfort A-1

If you aren’t comfortable, then you might as well be wearing a burlap sack. A swimsuit should fit you like a glove and shouldn’t ride up or fall down. Be sure to check the measurement charts of any suit you purchase online. This will save you the headache of returns and will ensure a proper fit. Happy shopping!
