Take an ingredient or two and create your own style recipe for success!
Max It Out
In our maxi skirt article, we definitely included a jean skirt in the mix. Denim maxi skirts are the perfect alternative to a pair of jeans! They give the coverage and warmth, but girl it up so much more. This is a great style for any seamstress, you can cut open a pair of jeans and add in pieces to create the length and shape you want. Denim on Denim + Denim
For jean junkies extraordinaire, take your favorite fabric and rock it head-to-toe! Piling on the denim is great in early Spring when it’s still cold outside. As it gets warmer, you can exchange the top for something in chambray or lose the jacket. Blue collar uniform never looked so good.
Denim Patches for the Win
Take a look at your favorite worn-in threads. Got a busted knee? Add denim patches to a pair of skinny jeans to liven up the look and stretch your budget a little further. You can use an iron-on patch and let the ends curl a little as they are washed. We like the sewn-on style with different colors of denim working their way down the leg. Add Ruffles + Trim
You don’t have to go for exposed seams and frayed edges to stay on trend. Deconstruct any of these looks visually and then make them your own. Ruffles are big for Spring this year, so feel free to get denim into the mix. Why settle for a plain old shirt when you could be sporting something with a little more effort? Lace trim and ribbon is always welcome in our closets. These are the pieces that never go out of style because little details make any garment special.
Rips + Tears? Bring it!
Jean jackets also massed a-plenty in our embellished jackets article. Along with the painted and studded denim jackets are rips and tears and massive holes. Run down to your favorite vintage store and get a jacket that fits great. Then give it a little cut and tug and you’re on your way to owning the hot trend with minimal investment. Remove hems and let the edges fray to their heart’s content. Fashion that allows you to put your creativity to work is always the most fun (and rewarding!).
Jump Into a Jumpsuit
Got a thing for towering over people? Pair some trendy platforms with a denim jumpsuit! The best styles have those little rips and tears we’re so fond of. Accessories take this fashion work horse up a notch, so refer to our neck scarf article for some ideas, too. Platforms look especially good with cropped pant styles and a jumper is perfect for events where you want to stand out a little. Like a fashion week or a baby shower. ;p Jumpsuits look just as cute with tennies, so never feel like you have to do just one look.
Add Pops of Color
Speaking of standing out a little.. No matter how you decide to pull your denim into the mix this season, be sure to add a pop of color here or there.
