Festival fashion just got a major improvement! Now that designers are getting closer to the 70s, I am taking notice with my wallet on stand-by! I keep flashing back to the old Val Kilmer / Meg Ryan movie The Doors. Where’s Jim Morrison when you need him?
You’re Lost Little Girl
Well, you won’t find him unless you become a Pamela yourself and that’s going to be easy. Festival dresses are looking amazing long or short and the details in pants and vests finally have me drooling. Don’t even get me started with capes and jackets! We’re slowly heading towards pre-disco days when fabrics were luxurious and ornamented to the hilt.
Hello, I Love You
The trick to upcoming festival fashion is to keep yourself from swimming in too much fabric. Add a long scarf or make sure there is some vertical treatment down the front so your figure doesn’t get lost. Festival dresses are so flowing, it’s easy to hide any imperfections, but you don’t want to walk around in a tent! Make sure the fabric is light-weight and breathable too. A cropped jacket is a nice way to add a waist and works perfect for an evening out.

Purple Haze
Next, consider incorporating some embroidery or fringe into your look. Not just some, but a bunch! Right now festival fashion is rich in reds and purples and florals galore. Find pieces luxe in velvet and mix in a little animal print if you dare. We’ve been telling you neck scarves are on their way to replacing necklaces. Wrap a super long one twice for a choker effect. If you can find a long, skinny scarf with fringe then you’ve pretty much hit the jackpot.
Ramble On
The trick is to look easy and low-key. If you can pull off head-to-toe velvet like you’re doing the walk of shame, then you’ve got the right attitude. And attitude is always the most important part of your outfit.
Festival Fashion Trampled Under Foot
Another trick is to focus on your footwear. I LOVE the short festival dresses with tall boots and the long dresses with short boots. Vests are making their grand debut and if I haven’t mentioned embroidery enough, please let me repeat myself. The best sunglasses are the round variety (a-la Pam or John Lennon) and belts help keep maxis from losing your shape.
Scarlet Begonias
If you’ve been to a festival recently, you know the best part is being outdoors, surrounded by great music. All you need is one or two great accessories to make it fun and carefree. The deep V is an essential part of the look, so forget the buttons.
Sugar Magnolia
You can implement festival energy into any day with embellished belts and boots, too. Embroidered flowers give you the power, man. You’re always skinnier when you’re DEAD.
Get it While You Can
Take your favorite styles from late 60s, early 70s fashion and make them your own. Use your favorite rock stars and bands as your source of inspiration. Time to give some credit to these legends for doing it first and doing it well.
