What brings you peace of mind? Security in a relationship? A healthy bank account? Your house cleaned out all spic-and-span? I know, you’re thinking, “D – all of the above“. Tap into whatever it is that brings you inner peace and project that feeling with a breezy, all white outfit this Spring. You’re in charge of your mental state and sometimes just the way you get dressed in the morning is all it takes to get you started on the right foot.

All White, All Right!

Traditionally, you’re not supposed to wear white head-to-toe until after Memorial Day. Check out Laura Hayden’s blog article for a fun history lesson on the subject. Never mind whether or not we here at Girlfriend are rule-breakers; all white is a year-round yes! It looks amazing after Labor Day well into winter and who can resist an white frock come Springtime?

Pair With Converse

Our #1 favorite look involves a pair of Chuck Taylors. Converse has been doing gender neutral shoe fashion wayyy before it became cool. The play between an all white, girly dress and a sporty shoe just works! This is the outfit that was made for frolicking in the fields, I do declare!

Add Bright Sandals

If you need to feel more fancy, add a pair of bright sandals to the mix. Show off that pedi and let your feet do the talking! You may have caught our article last week on Pantone’s color scheme for Spring2017.Sandals in muted tones of yellow and orange work perfectly with an all white dress. Keep the rest of the details simple and jewelry to the bare minimum. When you’re doing the white look, minimalism is best.

Rock the Farm Girl Look

How do you feel about overalls right now? ‘Cause we love ’em! Look more country and less “painter” by paring all white overalls with a sheer blouse. This is where those straps come in handy! It keeps things more to the imagination and allows you to feel comfortable in public. People are still trying to figure out that “see-through” look and this one is a win! My sister just bought a pair of overalls from Free People and they are so stinking cute. Do it.

Pink, Pink, You Stink

If an all white outfit starts to make you feel like you are about to get baptized or married, never fret. Add a jacket or blouse in dusty hues of pink or blue. Pink is also a hot color this year and softens up too much white. White pants paired with a white tee can be kind of unflattering to a girlish figure, so adding some length always helps. This is also how you get away with wearing white during the rainy season!

Play in a Playsuit

Another trend that has been circling back this year is the playsuit. Playsuits look super fresh in all white, opaque fabrics. Find one that suits you and you might be surprised at how much you end up wearing it through to the end of Summer! Pair them with tennies or cute sandals and a straw purse like the ones we featured this month. It’s a totally versatile outfit that is comfortable and easy-going.

So Modest

If you find the perfect outfit, but need to stay modest, add a form-fitting slip underneath. We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the fantastic Honey Slip, made in our home town of San Clemente, Ca. The fit and the fabric is amazing under just about anything. Either way, alluding to what is underneath and total peek-a-boo is in, so it’s up to you! Just make sure your are comfortable and confident no matter what you do. White is actually a power color and all white translates to peace; not pushover. That’s right!
