Culottes + Wide-Leg Pants for a Breezy Transition to Summer

Here’s your French lesson for the day: “culotte” means “a divided skirt”. So, now you have the proper mental image for the best pant style of the season. Our love of the high-waisted pant is here to stay; this time with ankles showing! Culottes and cropped wide-leg pants reflect that French girl charm we all love. Add a neck scarf in one of the styles we showed you last Fall for some extra ooh-la-la!

Culottes + Tennies

Memorial Day is approaching, but that hasn’t stopped our passion for all white fashion. Culottes look perfect with a brand spanking new pair of Adidas tennies. The wide frame of the pants balance Adidas’ heavier shoe and ankles are always in! Keep your accessories with this look minimal and strong, as well.

Dr. Marten’s at Your Service

Another substantial shoe that works great with cropped wide-leg pants hails direct from Dr. Marten’s via ASOS. The chunky oxford is so cute with ankle socks and culottes. It’s a little taste of the 90’s without being full-blown grunge. This look is perfect for the office and transitions nicely to after hours too. Sport a structured blazer and ditch it when things start to heat up! We’ve been fans of wide-cut pants for the office for awhile now, check out our article from last Fall for more style ideas.

Culottes also have a fun 70’s vibe that you can enhance with the right colors and accessories. Platforms and saddle bags are the perfect partners for cropped denim gauchos. The latest trend in denim is deconstructed, so hemming is not needed! Update the typical 70’s colors in Pantone’s muted yellows and oranges. You’ll be feeling groovy in no time!

Just Add Pajamas

We’re still finding amazing ways to incorporate the pajama look into our wardrobe. Add a short-sleeve silk pajama top with high-waisted culottes for an “i-just-rolled-out-of-bed-and-look-this-amazing” fashion statement. Feel free to ditch the makeup and let your inner beauty shine! This is a great look for going barefoot around the house. Add a simple sandal or espadrille if you’re heading outside.

101 Reasons to Love a Split Skirt

Skirts are so comfortable, we should probably be living in them more. We touted the maxi styles at the beginning of the season, but there’s something to be said for the split skirt in general. Wide culottes and sandals are the epitome of comfort! To change up the look, sport a conservative pair of penny loafers like the ones we were loving in January with one of our favorite sunglasses styles for Summer. Vintage classics abounding all around folks! It doesn’t take much confidence to pull these looks off. They look great on just about everyone. Feel free to relax.

Country Cropped

Cropped wide-leg pants also look super cute in overall form. We’re smitten by Free People’s Saya Overalls made from Japanese indigo denim. Culottes can crop your leg a little, so jumpers and overalls help elongate your frame. It’s also a good idea to make sure they are fitted through the bodice and hips, so you don’t feel like you’re swimming around in there!

Comfort #1

If you’re the kind of girl that refuses to sacrifice comfort for fashion, then look no further. The combination of a wide leg, high waist, and unfinished hem makes culottes a no-brainer! Your imperfections are hidden and your body is free to run, sit, and stand however you like. They are best paired with comfy shoes and easy tops, so you don’t need to put a lot of stress into it. Don’t you love 2017 styles right now?
